You too can make your own detangling spray!
Maggie is very tender headed just like her mommy was as a child. I used to cry and cry while my mom brushed my hair to go to preschool. It was awful! Maggie is the exact same way. She wiggles and cries and tries to get away from the brush, even though that really makes it harder for me to get the tangles without hurting her, but she doesn't understand this... being 2 and all. :P
So I bought her some detangling spray at the store... it's really smelly and makes her hair kind of oily looking. All in all works okay for the actual detangling process, but it's almost $3 for a bottle and seems kind of "chemical-ly" to me. SO when the bottle ran out, I was happy enough for it to be gone. However, I still needed something to assist with detangling her hair on a day to day basis.
Can I just say I felt a little bit like a genius when this idea of mine actually worked! And now I'm going to share it with you!
I put the littlest bit of cheap, left over conditioner (like the dollar a bottle stuff) in the bottom of that empty bottle... fill the rest with water... shake. Spray. Comb. w00t! How much conditioner? I just squirted some in there, but it's a normal size spray bottle and I added maybe a teaspoon or so of conditioner. It doesn't make her hair oily, the tangles come out just as well, AND it probably cost me all of two cents! Yup... that was my genius moment. You're welcome. lol
Oh, and I thought I would point out that I have "left over" conditioner because I only use 2-in-1 shampoo now with a terrifying almost three year old (the terrifying threes....lol) and a new baby. My husband officially takes longer showers than I do. lol I could totally survive those reality shows where they cry over the shower head that turns off in 5 minutes. Kraig. Could. Not. LOL

The Simple Woman's Daybook
Okay, so I am forcing myself to post so I can get back in the swing of this thing I really WANT to do but never make myself find the time to do it!
Head on over to the simple woman's daybook to see how it works!
FOR TODAY
Outside my window... Sunshine reflecting off the old metal roof on the neighbors house. That house is awesome. :)
I am thinking...about how nice it will be to spend the day swimming with my family and having a hot dog cookout.
I am thankful...for my beautiful family, my wonderful husband, my gracious parents, and a new opportunity God has placed in our path. :)
In the kitchen...a quick lunch is baking in the oven (store bought corn dogs and chicken nuggets) for us and my nephews so we can get the heck out of here and go swimmin'! A brisket is defrosting for tomorrow.
I am wearing...capris and a tshirt.
I am creating...the home of my dreams. It's slow going though...
I am going...to my brother's house to swim in his pool. :)
I am wondering...what the future holds for us now...
I am reading...(read: trying to read) all the blogs I have subscribed to and lost track of. I need to get them all up to date and keep up!
I am hoping...that as well as things are going now, they will only get better. :)
I am looking forward to...crafting time tomorrow, hopefully.
I am hearing...the boys (nephews) playing in the living room and Maggie laughing at them and chatting away in toddler talk.
Around the house...JUST A LOT! I feel overwhelmed when thinking about this topic. I know it is better than it was and it takes time to organize an entire household, but I feel overwhelmed, nonetheless.
One of my favorite things...time with family and making kiddos happy. :)
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Set Aside Crafting Time
Try to thread my sewing machine (try being the operative word)

{pretty, happy, funny, real}
Pretty
My hubby bought these pretty truffle candies for me (on clearance) after Easter. See, working at Walmart has its perks. ;)
Happy
My happy Henry smiling in his Easter suit. :)
Maggie hunting for her Easter basket. :)
Funny
This is what happens to the baby when mommy is busy making lunch for Maggie. She loves to color! :P
Real
I have two "real" photos this week. I took the first last week, but never got a chance to post my {phfr} post because of the second picture. :P
Maggie got a shipment of Low Protein foods last week. We got some shredded cheeses for her which I'm really excited about. But when I saw this sticker on the box, I just kind of thought it pretty much summed up the reality of our lives. We're so excited for the food, but we have to have food shipped to us special. It's just a sobering reminder.
My second real photo is this, somewhat old, picture of Maggie in Children's hospital with an IV. Most of the time, our lives are simple, happy, and hospitaless... but when illness strikes, this is our reality (for both kids). Maggie was admitted to children's hospital on Friday night with a double ear infection, lack of appetite, fever, and later to find out the flu. We (Maggie and Mommy) were there all weekend and Daddy and Henry had to stay home. I didn't have a camera or camera phone with me to take any pics this time, but I have several from her stays at the hospital. Always stressful, but at the same time, really a relief. Once the IV is in, I can stop worrying that she will go into a metabolic crisis. We are home now and things are going very well. :)

Rain on a Saturday
It's raining. It's been storming off and on for the last couple weeks, but now, it's just a steady rain. This is one of my favorite parts of Springtime, rain and storms. I love the rain. I always have. I don't know why gloomy, rainy days make me happy, but it just stirs something inside me and makes me feel new.
But I'm torn this Saturday... Holy Saturday. I'm torn because it's raining and I love it, but we're supposed to be spending the day with my sister's family for early Easter dinner and an Easter egg hunt in the yard. It's raining and kind of chilly. Maggie was supposed to wear a new short and tank outfit her MawMaw bought her today, but it's raining and kind of chilly. And lastly, I have a big gaping openness in my kitchen. I cleared it out last night because I am supposed to be getting an antique buffet with hutch today. My brother is being so gracious as to haul it 15 miles to my house. The thing is solid oak, six foot long, seven foot tall once together. It's huge. His sentiments, when asked how many men we needed to get together to haul the cabinet, were "you'll need a helicopter." (lol)
But it's raining and we probably won't get to bring the cabinet home today. I still love that it's raining. It sounds nice outside my open window, even though it's kind of cold and I should probably close the window. The birds are singing happily because they love the rain as well. Even the sound of the cars going by out front sounds better in the rain... you notice the tires on the wet pavement instead of the engine noise.
And I suppose it's the perfect kind of Holy Saturday to have. Waiting with great hope and faith for tomorrow while still being sad that yesterday happened. Yep, I'll take this rainy day.

{pretty, happy, funny, real}

This is a picture of the moon I took in the wee hours of the morning this morning (2am) when I was up to feed Henry. :)
{happy}
My boy being his normal happy self as long as he has a bottle in his mouth.
{funny}
Maggie had the opportunity to paint outside two days this week. This was watercolor day. She is not afraid of messes. That is for sure.
{real}
The field of dandelions that we call a back yard. They all popped up at once after the first mow. It's a little disheartening, but the grass is beautiful and we're lucky it was already a nice yard when we bought the house... dandelions and all!
